Biography: Gary HagenThe Voice of Don Henley, Guitars, Mandolin and Keyboards![]() Gary grew up in a musical household and has been performing, writing and recording music literally most of his life. His first influences were his Grandmother, who was a touring opera singer, and his Father, who was a classical pianist with the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra. Gary's first professional musical experience was at the age of 4, playing 2nd violin in the California Youth Symphony. "...My form of teenage rebellion was to change from playing Mozart and Beethoven to Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, so around the age of 12 I dropped the violin and bought an electric guitar. And I haven't turned down my amp since..." His many musical credits include tours, sessions and recordings with artists as diverse as Crazy Horse, Stephen Jay (Weird Al Yankovic), Tori Amos, Animal Talk, Chet McCracken (the Doobie Brothers), Terry Kath (Chicago) and many, many others. He formed "The Long Run - A Tribute to the Eagles" in 1999, after a benefit gig/jam session for a local LA club that was going out of business. "It was one of those great moments where we had 8 or so fantastic musicians onstage, and most of us were lead vocalists from different bands that had respected each other and wanted to play together for years, but it had never worked out. Once the band and the audience realized the vocal horsepower that was up there, we started jamming Eagles tunes for the rest of the night. We practically played the entire first Greatest Hits album, and the crowd was flipping out. We thought, hmmm, we're onto something here... And going into our 9th year, the crowd response is still the same at every show we do." In addition to the Long Run, Gary fills the role of David Crosby in the CSNY tribute "Carry On", and fronts a classic rock cover band called "The Sell Outs", with ex-members of Steppenwolf and Berlin. |
